4 Uses of Coconut Oil for Your Skin

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is the trend these days. Many celebrities are using it, youtube beauty gurus love it and the public in general is becoming aware of its benefits. Coconut oil has various different applications but is it really that effective when it comes to skincare?

Coconut oil contains anti-aging properties that prevents wrinkles and sagging of the skin and also provides moisture to the skin.

Here are 4 ways you can use coconut oil for you skin:

1. Use coconut oil as a face scrub/face wash:

Coconut oil is generally very gentle on the skin and you can replace it in place of your face wash since coconut oil is a completely natural product that does not bring harm to the skin unlike the harmful chemicals that can be found in most of the exfoliators or scrubs found in the market.

You can either use just coconut to wash your face, or you can create a mixture of fine sugar granules and coconut oil (you can also use Epsom salt as a substitute for sugar) and apply it to your face. Make sure you scrub gently and don't rub it on your skin too hard. Gently exfoliate in circular motions and use your pinky finger as that is the finger with which you can barely apply any unnecessary pressure on the skin.

Once you are done with exfoliating your face, wash it off with lukewarm water. You can then go on and apply your regular toner and moisturizer.

You can apply this scrub on your lips as well, it works really well.

2. Use coconut oil as a moisturizer:

Coconut oil has moisturizing properties therefore it can work as an excellent moisturizer for your skin the winter as well as in the summer.

Put a few drops of coconut oil on your fingers and gently rub your fingers together to warm it up a bit. Then, gently apply the coconut oil to your whole face and neck (you can apply it to your body as well of course).

You can use it this way after a bath or at night before going to bed.

You can use coconut oil for lymph node massage as well as it is very gentle and it moisturizes your skin at the same time.

3. Moisturizer for your lips:

Do you feel like your lips have been really dry lately? You've tried using chap-sticks but it just isn't working. Well, coconut oil is the solution for dry and chapped lips.

Every morning when you wake up or at night when you are getting ready to go to bed, just apply a little bit of coconut oil to your lips. This way if you use it in the morning, it will keep your lips moisturized throughout the day. If you apply it at night, it will moisturize as well as heal your lips as you sleep.
You can also moisturize your lips with coconut oil after you have exfoliated your lips with the coconut oil + sugar scrub.

4. Treating dark circles:

Yes! Coconut oil can be used to treat dark under-eye circles.

Just put a few drops of coconut oil on your fingers, rub your fingers together a few times and then massage the oil in to your dark circles. Do not apply too much, just enough that can be absorbed by the skin.

Apply it under your eyes every night before you go to sleep. Use it consistently for a few weeks and see the difference!

Bonus!

Even though this is technically not your skin but it is still your face. Apply coconut oil to your eyelashes and your eyebrows to make the hair grow longer and thicker!

Take an old mascara wand and rub all the excess mascara off the wand. Just roll the mascara wand through some coconut oil (if you have an empty mascara bottle/container, just fill that bottle/container with some coconut oil) and apply it to your lashes like you would while applying mascara. You can use the same mascara wand on your eyebrows.

Note:  Each person has a different skin type so that is why use coconut oil with precaution and stop using it if it causes a harsh reaction on the skin or if it does not suit your skin in anyway. Also, use pure/organic/virgin coconut oil to ensure that it is completely natural and does not have any chemicals added to it.
